2010/04/28 - Unscheduled Internet Outage
At about 1:20PM this afternoon the University lost access to the Internet for reasons as yet unknown. Users will likely experience this outage as an ERR_DNS_FAIL or ERR_CONNECT_FAIL error when trying to access websites. When accessing secure (https://) web sites, your browser may report that the connection has timed out or the site is unreachable.

This outage is unrelated to the ongoing problems with international access.

We've reported this outage to TENET's service desk.
Neotel apparently have a network failure between Cape Town & Jo'burg that they claim is the cause of this outage. We've asked them to explain exactly how this outage affects the Eastern Cape.
Having received no response, I've just asked TENET's service desk to follow up with Neotel and attempt to solicit an estimated time-to-repair from them.
Internet access appears to have been restored.
