During the Tuesday, 19 November maintenance window, maintenance work will affect certain services, starting at 5:30 PM and being completed before midnight. The following work is planned:
- PBX: software on the university telephone system will be upgraded to a new version by our service provider. We expect that all phones (IP telephones, mobile app and web client) will be unable to make or receive calls at times between 7 PM and 9 PM. After the upgrade is complete, there will be some visual differences to the web client.
- Distribution routers: software will be updated on the routers serving all buildings in the areas listed below. All network services (including Wi-Fi and IP telephones) may be disrupted in those areas for up to 30 minutes.
- Off campus: all buildings east of Somerset St
- St Peters campus: all buildings south of Lucas Avenue.
- West campus: all buildings which are west of South St and north of Prince Alfred St
- Wi-Fi: the controller software which manages Wi-Fi access points across campus will be updated. No outage is expected but in the event of unforeseen issues, it is possible that eduroam Wi-Fi service across campus may be unstable for some hours during the evening.
This work is being conducted during a minor maintenance period. Should there be a compelling reason why this work should not go ahead as planned, please contact support@ru.ac.za before 3:00 PM on Tuesday.
Our service provider was not able to complete the phone maintenance referred to above on Tuesday evening. We understand that they will attempt to do the work tonight, Thursday, 21 November.
Please expect outages affecting all phones between 7 and 9 PM.
