During the Tuesday, May 6th maintenance window, maintenance work affecting a number of services will occur, starting at 5:30 PM and being completed before midnight. The following will occur:
  • Avaya deskphone software updates: Avaya IP deskphones on campus will be rebooted to install new software. The upgrade process will take approximately ten minutes to complete. Phones connected to analogue or digital lines, or IP phones which have been rebooted at any time during the past three weeks (and thus already have the new software installed) will not be affected.
  • Wi-Fi controller software updates: software on the controllers managing Wi-Fi access points on campus will be updated. Wi-Fi access across campus will be unavailable for approximately ten minutes.
  • Server software updates: software on the servers which provide the following services will be updated, resulting in outages of approximately five minutes per server:
    • DNS
    • DHCP
    • RT
    • Web proxies
    • Registration system
    • Incoming e-mail
    • SMS
    • Apple Software Update Server
    • Provisioning (web proxy autodiscovery, telephone provisioning)
    • RU Single Sign-on
  • St Peters campus distribution routers: software on the distribution routers serving the St Peters Campus sector (all buildings on the south east side of Lucas Avenue) will be upgraded. No noticeable outage is expected (except for the CSSR building, which will experience a 15 minute outage), though if unforeseen problems occur, a complete network outage (including IP telephony) in that sector may result.
  • Edge router software updates: software on the secondary Internet edge router will upgraded. No noticeable outage is expected, though if unforeseen problems occur, an Internet outage may result.
  • Access switch software update: software on the access switches serving the main Library will be updated. An outage of approximately ten minutes is expected.
