Weather permitting, trenching operations will take place on Saturday
20th August across the lower part of Gilbert Street (more or less
between Hobson Dining Hall and Jan Smuts Dining Hall).
Digging will commence at 08h30 and it is expected to reach a stage
where cars can pass over the reconstituted trench after 5 to 6 hours.
If it is raining hard on Saturday (not just drizzling) trenching
will take place on Sunday 21st August. Failing that, trenching will
take place on Saturday 27th August or Sunday 28th August.

will be affected while the trench is open.
The inconvenience is regrettable, but unavoidable. The excavations
are a necessary part of putting additional fibre optic cable into
the ground as part of the IT Divisions campus network renewal.
