2010/04/18 - (postponed) International Internet Access Maintenance
We've been informed by TENET that emergency maintenance needs to be carried on a submarine cable in the Mediterranean that forms part of our route to the Internet outside of South Africa. The outage is expected to begin sometime tomorrow (Saturday 17 April) and will continue for between six hours and three days, dependent on weather conditions.

Users will likely experience the outage as an ERR_DNS_FAIL or ERR_CONNECT_FAIL error when trying to access sites on the Internet which are not hosted in South Africa.
TENET has indicated that, whilst it is making every effort to find alternative transit via the SAT-3 cable for the duration of these repairs, they're not optimistic that it is possible at such short notice. The SAT-3 submarine cable is also being repaired at about the same time, and will be using a lower-capacity protected route. As a result, they're likely to struggle to meet their regular customers demands at this time.
We've just been informed that this work will commence at 9AM on Sunday 18 April. The cable will then be down for between 6 hours and 3 days dependent on weather conditions and other factors.
SEACOM have indicated that the work planned for tomorrow morning has been postponed by two weeks. There's no clarity on when exactly this will happen.
