At about 7.30AM this morning, the University lost access to the Internet. Users will likely experience this outage an ERR_DNS_FAIL or ERR_CONNECT_FAIL error when trying to access websites hosted off campus.
The cause of this outage appears to be a routing loop on TENET's network. We're in the process of trying to report the fault.

The root cause of this problem was the failure of both of Telkom's SANReN circuits into Durban (from Port Elizabeth and from Pretoria). This affected international traffic as well as some DNS resolution. The problem was reported to Telkom, and they resolved the fault within about twenty minutes.
