2019/09/13 - CLI on calls placed from PBX
As of this morning, all outgoing calls placed from phones connected to the university PBX will use Calling Line Identity.  Previously, call recipients would only see "private number" when receiving a call from PBX; now they will see the phone number of the PBX extension which is calling them. This also means that, if the recipient has a contact for that number, or the number has been entered into the database of an application such as Truecaller, the recipient will see the name associated with the caller.
2019/09/10 - Scheduled maintenance, 10 September
IT scheduled maintenance work will occur on Tuesday, September 10th, starting at 5:30 PM.  Outgoing phone calls: all phone calls placed from a phone on the university's PBX to an external number will be routed via a new service provider.  We expect that there will be a period of around an hour during which it might not be possible to place outgoing calls to external numbers.  Internal calls and incoming calls (calls from an external number to a number on the university PBX) should be affected. Printing services: software that handles accounting of print jobs will be updated, starting at 6 PM.  It will not be possible to print to any iPrint queues which use print job accounting/charging for an hour.  This update was attempted during the September 3rd maintenance window, but could not be completed then. This work is being conducted during a minor maintenance period. Should there be a compelling reason why this work should not go ahead as planned, please contact support@ru.ac.za before 3:00 PM on Tuesday.
