TENET have informed us that SAIX is experiencing network problems on its international links, which will directly affect Rhodes users browsing international sites.
It appears that there are two seperate problems contributing to this:
The first is that the SAT-3 fibre optic cable that runs up the West coast of Africa has been out of commission for about a week. As a result, all international traffic is being routed via the SAFE cable to the Far East. This has a small effect on the latency of traffic, but is not the cause of the current instability.
It appears that there is a circuit failure somewhere between London and New York, which is resulting in intermittent connection problems to sites in the Americas. Further details of this are not available at the moment, nor is an estimate of when the issue will be resolved.
