Around 19:00 tonight, Rhodes' network lost access to the Internet. You will likely experience this outage as an ERR_DNS_FAIL or ERR_CONNECT_FAIL error when trying to access websites, or your browser may report that the connection has timed out or the site is unreachable.
The problem has been reported to the TENET service desk. The cause of the problem is that at least three SANREN backbone links in the Eastern Cape have failed. Because of those failures, there is no working path on the SANREN network from Grahamstown out of the Eastern Cape. TENET have reported the failed links to Telkom.
Once one or more of the links is restored, Internet access should resume. No ETA is available as yet.
