TENET have given us notice that Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University will be conducting electrical maintenance in one of their data centres on Saturday 20th July 2013. This will result in SANReN's Port Elizabeth point of presence being unavailable. TENET/NMMU have not indicated a specific time frame for this work.
SANReN's Grahamstown point of presence, to which Rhodes connects, is connected to both Port Elizabeth and to East London (via Bisho). This means that the work at NMMU should not affect Rhodes' access to the Internet, but we will be at risk of an Internet outage should the Grahamstown<->Bisho<->East London link fail for any reason.
However, in light of our experiences on Monday it is possible that the outage in Port Elizabeth means that Rhodes will experience an IPv6 Internet outage whilst work is conducted at NMMU. Whether or not this will be the case will be clearer after the tests scheduled for this evening are completed.
