2011/10/31 - Scheduled Internet Outage
As you are aware, the SEACOM cable has been back in service since approximately 17:00 on Saturday and has been stable and servicing traffic as normal.

As part of ensuring the continued stability of the link, one of SEACOM's upstream partners needs to do some power maintenance this evening between 23:59 and 02:00. During this time, all international connectivity will be down.

You will likely experience this outage as an ERR_DNS_FAIL or ERR_CONNECT_FAIL error when trying to access websites hosted outside South Africa (even those ending in .za). When accessing secure (https://) web sites, your browser may report that the connection has timed out or the site is unreachable.
We've received a subsequent message from TENET which indicates that the maintenance will be performed between 20:00 and 23:59.
There seems some confusion about timezones here -- we're not entirely sure whether this is SAST/CAT, GMT, or some other time zone and whether or not daylight savings time comes into it. Suffice to say, we can expect an outage anytime from now until the early hours of the morning.
