2011/07/06 - Emergency International Internet outage
We've received the following notification from TENET of an International Internet outage this evening:

Due to significant issues being experienced on the Durban router, we will be performing an emergency software upgrade at 17:00 today on the router.

As a result of this there will be a complete international outage for up to 60 minutes (expected down time is around 20 30 minutes, but in order to cater for unforeseen issues, we are allocating a 60 minute window to this)

We apologize for the short notice and the timing of this upgrade, but it is critical that we do this work with immediate effect in order to eliminate the high probability of sustained downtime due to software issues on the router.

You will likely experience this outage as an ERR_DNS_FAIL or ERR_CONNECT_FAIL error when trying to access websites hosted outside South Africa (even those ending in .za). When accessing secure (https://) web sites, your browser may report that the connection has timed out or the site is unreachable.
TENET has notified us that the maintenance has been completed successfully:
The emergency maintenance on the Durban router has been completed successfully and the network is back online and functioning optimally again.
