2010/12/11 - Unscheduled Internet Outage
At about 3.10PM this afternoon we lost access to the international Internet for reasons as yet unknown. You will likely experience this outage as an ERR_DNS_FAIL or ERR_CONNECT_FAIL error when trying to access websites hosted internationally (including .za sites hosted outside of South Africa). When accessing secure (https://) web sites, your browser may report that the connection has timed out or the site is unreachable.

We're currently also having difficulty reaching TENET's service desk in Cape Town (which may be related to the above). As such, we haven't yet managed to report this outage nor do we have any information on when connectivity might be restored.
It looks as if this is actually multiple breaks in the SANReN backbone ring, and is affecting out ability to reach other parts of the country as well.

We've managed to report it, albeit in a round-about way.
It seems we have two concurrent problems. Multiple breaks in the SANReN ring, and a SEACOM/SEA-MU-WE4 outage. The former has now been fixed.
