2009/01/24 - Unscheduled Internet Outage
Shortly after 11AM, the University lost all access to the Internet. Users will likely experience this as an ERR_DNS_FAIL or ERR_CONNECT_FAIL error when trying to access websites hosted off campus.

The cause of the outage is currently not known, but is a fault somewhere on our upstream service provider's network. TENET's service desk detected the fault automatically and have now initiated an investigation. We're awaiting feedback from them.
We've been informed that this outage might be as a result of planned fibre maintenance, although the maintenance in question was not supposed to have affected our service. The fault has been escalated within Neotel.

The planned maintenance is scheduled to finish at 6 PM, so if the maintenance did cause our outage, we're hoping to have access back by then.
The problem has been escalated to Neotel's national service manager, who will try to get the connection restored as soon as possible.
