2008/06/25 - Network Maintenance In The June Vac
During the vac, maintenance will be undertaken on a number of parts of the university network. The following work has been scheduled, but more work is expected to be planned in the next few weeks. Updates will be posted to the noticeboard as they are available.
  1. Wednesday, 25 June, 15:00 - 19:00
    Buildings affected: Biological Sciences
The network switches in Biological Sciences building will be replaced to provide additional capacity for more network points in the building.
  2. Thursday, 26 June, 12:30 - 14:30
Buildings affected (networking and phones): St Peters campus, except for Eden Grove.
The batteries in the UPS in the network centre in Beethoven House will be replaced. While that should not cause any interruption of services, it might be necessary to shut down the network and the PBX.
  3. Friday, 27 June, 12:30 - 14:30
Buildings affected: Main Admin, Drostdy Barracks, Albany Museum
The network switches in Main Admin will be shut down, connected to a UPS, and started up again.
  4. Monday, 30 June, 7:00 - 9:00
Buildings affected (networking): Main Admin, Drostdy Barracks, Albany Museum, IWR, Library, The Greens, Celeste House
Buildings affected (phones): Union, AMM, Estates HQ, Grounds and Gardens HQ, 5 Prince Alfred St, St Peters Campus (except for Eden Grove)
A fibre optic cable will be relocated in the Struben Data Centre. Certain buildings above will not have access to the network, while in other buildings, phones will not be able to make calls.
Point 3 has had to be postponed. The network in Main Admin, Albany Museum and Drostdy Barracks will not be affected today.

However, between 13:00 and 14:00 the network in the New Arts Building will be down. The network switches in that building will be replaced to provide additional network capacity.
