The University currently has no national or international Internet access. Users will not be able to browse the web or access other sites on the Internet.
The problem is in our upstream service provider's network, and affects all higher educational institutions on the GEN2 network. We've been in contact with Telkom about this and they assure us that they're working on the problem, and that access will be restored as soon as possible. They are not able to give us an estimated time to repair.
Unfortunately, this fault has resulted in the University's IP space being denounced from the global Internet routing tables. Once networking is restored, Rhodes' network space will automatically be re-announced. It will, however, take several hours for Internet access to stabilise. During this time users may find that some sites on the Internet are reachable, whilst others are not. Over time, more and more sites will become reachable until normality returns.
