2014/04/08 - Scheduled maintenance: AMM data centre
During the minor maintenance period on Tuesday 8th April, maintenance work affecting a number of services will occur, starting at 5:30 PM and being completed before midnight. The following will occur:
  • Web proxy servers: the software running one of the web proxy servers will be updated. This is to complete the work that was aborted last Tuesday. Based on our experience of upgrading the other proxy, no outage is expected. However, web browsing may be slow for about half an hour.
  • AMM data centre: emergency electrical maintenance will be performed on the UPS serving the AMM data centre. This work is necessary to fix a faulty static bypass switch, and we are at risk of an unplanned power outage until the work is completed. It is a continuation of the maintenance started last Tuesday (hopefully this time with the correct part). Since we now know this work will almost inevitably cause a power outage in the data centre, the same mitigation strategies will be put in place as last week.

Whilst it is being performed in a minor maintenance period, the electrical work is necessary emergency maintenance and we are at risk of an unplanned
outage until it is completed. With that in mind, should there be a compelling reason why this work should not go ahead as planned, please contact our Help Desk before 5 PM today (Monday 7th) as we need to confirm with the service provider who will be conducting the work. More information about maintenance windows and maintenance periods.
The maintenance on the web proxy servers has been successfully completed.

The electrical maintenance on the AMM data centre's UPS was not completed successfully, and so this data centre remains at risk. New work may need to be scheduled.
