At 4.30PM this afternoon (Friday, 31 August), we'll be performing some electrical maintenance in our Struben data centre. This work will take approximately an hour to complete, during which time all central ICT services are at risk of an outage.
The work is being done on the supply side of the current UPS. As such, all services will be protected by the UPS and should remain running. Given the recent problems with the UPS, this work is perhaps riskier than we'd like. However, the same event makes it critical that we complete this work as soon as possible -- the maintenance work is to connect an electrical supply for the replacement UPS.
In the event that the UPS fails, all central ICT services will be affected. It will likely take 3-4 hours to recover from this eventuality.
