During the Tuesday, August 7th maintenance window, maintenance work will be done in the Struben Data Centre and AMM building.
  • AMM building: the software on a stack of switches which serves 80% of the AMM building (as well as the VC's Lodge) will be upgraded.

This will entail at best a series of three outages of approximately five minutes each, but longer outages are possible if problems are experienced during the upgrade. These outages will affect all network services, including IP telephony, within the affected area. This work will start at 8 PM.
  • Struben Data Centre: new switches will be added to an access-layer switch stack which connects the all of servers in the data centre (except for PBX services) to the rest of the network.

This should not involve any downtime, but outages are possible if problems are experienced during the installation. Should outages occur, certain network services will be unavailable from anywhere on campus. Critical services will be migrated to the AMM data centre ahead of time to reduce the risk. This work will begin after the work in AMM has been completed.
This maintenance work is being undertaken in the ITSC-approved scheduled maintenance window. It is expected that all work will be completed well before midnight.
