2010/05/23 - Scheduled Internet Outage (revised)
We've received the following notice from TENET about upcoming maintenance this coming Sunday morning:
QUOTE
SEACOM will be swapping an Express Wave Length on the Mumbai<>Jeddah segment on the 23rd May 2010 at 00h00-02h00. This activity is undertaken to ensure network stability and improve network service uptime. This exercise will take a maximum of 2 hours and there will be no international services during this time.

You will likely experience this outage as an ERR_DNS_FAIL or ERR_CONNECT_FAIL error when trying to access websites hosted internationally (including .za websites hosted out the country). When accessing secure (https://) web sites, your browser may report that the connection has timed out or the site is unreachable.
In addition to the above work, Neotel have tentatively indicated that they intend completing their previously scheduled maintenance between midnight and 6AM this coming Sunday (23 May). This work will result in a total Internet outage, rather than simply international traffic as indicated above.

During this maintenance you can expect Internet access to be intermittent or unavailable. You will likely experience this outage as an ERR_DNS_FAIL or ERR_CONNECT_FAIL error when trying to access websites. When accessing secure (https://) web sites, your browser may report that the connection has timed out or the site is unreachable.

Neotel have not yet given us final confirmation that this outage will take place as scheduled. As soon as we receive the formal change notification, we'll post that confirmation here.

You are strongly encouraged to plan around this scheduled outage and assume that Internet access will be unavailable for the entire duration of the maintenance window.
Neotel have just forwarded us confirmation of the planned change on Sunday morning. Their notification document indicates a somewhat shorter period than originally advertised, and hopefully work will be completed by 4AM.
